Halloween card

Around 1900 Halloween was considered to be a good time for a girl to find out the identity of her future husband. I don't know any that require a pumpkin on the head, but a girl would peel an apple and throw the peel over their shoulder and it would supposedly form the first initial of her husband's name. There was also a legend about looking in a mirror at midnight where your husband would be reflected back to the woman.

Ripans (1900)

Ipecac is used to induce vomiting and nux vomica is another name for strychnine. I can't imagine how sick people got who used this product.
